Your costs
This is a planning tool. Real costs can vary and may include taxes, finance costs or other expenses not entered here.
How the cost calculator works
The calculator adds your direct and indirect costs, divides them by the number of units, and then estimates a selling price based on your target profit margin.
Total Cost = Materials + Labour + Packaging + Delivery + Overheads + Fees + Other Costs
Cost per Unit = Total Cost ÷ Units
Selling Price = Cost per Unit ÷ (1 − Target Margin)
Worked example
If your total cost is £570 for 100 units, your cost per unit is £5.70. With a 30% target margin, the suggested selling price is about £8.14 per unit.
Frequently asked questions
Is profit margin the same as markup?
No. Margin compares profit with selling price, while markup compares profit with cost.
Should I include overheads?
Yes, if you want a more realistic cost estimate. Overheads can include rent, utilities, software, insurance and other business running costs.
Can I use this for products and services?
Yes. For services, use labour and overhead fields heavily and set the number of units to the number of jobs, hours or service packages you want to cost.
