Calculator Methodology

Last updated: 8 October 2026

Money Formula Lab aims to make each calculator transparent. Calculator pages normally explain the formula used, the meaning of the main inputs and a worked example.

Calculation principles

Calculations use standard mathematical formulas appropriate to the tool. Where assumptions are necessary, they are stated on the calculator page. We avoid presenting simplified estimates as exact real-world quotations.

Rounding

Results may be rounded for display. Small differences can occur when another provider calculates using more decimal places, daily rather than monthly periods, different payment dates or a different rounding method.

Rates and external data

Currency tools may use the latest available reference-rate data from an external provider. Reference rates are informational and are not the same as live executable bid/ask prices offered by a bank or broker.

Financial products

Loan and mortgage tools generally assume regular repayment schedules unless the calculator says otherwise. They may not include arrangement fees, insurance, taxes, early-repayment charges or lender-specific rules.

Corrections
