What is a pip?
A pip is a standard unit used to measure price movement in forex. For most currency pairs, one pip is 0.0001. For pairs involving the Japanese yen, one pip is usually 0.01.
Pip Value ≈ Trade Size × Pip Size
For pairs where USD is the quote currency, the result is approximately in US dollars. For other pairs, conversion may be needed depending on your account currency.
Worked example
For EUR/USD, one standard lot is 100,000 units and one pip is 0.0001. That gives an approximate pip value of $10 per pip.
Frequently asked questions
Why are yen pairs different?
Most JPY pairs are quoted to two decimal places for a standard pip, so the pip size is typically 0.01 instead of 0.0001.
Does pip value change?
It can. The exact value depends on the currency pair, trade size, account currency and current exchange rates. This calculator loads the latest available reference rate automatically.
